If
you are wondering how to set up a google analytics account then in this
tutorial I'll show you how to set up an account and how to add google analytics
to your website.
Hey
friends, I'm Khaled, and welcome to my website, where I share technical advice
and app reviews. Today's explanation will show you how to create a Google
Analytics account and how to add Google Analytics to your website. There are
some really important problem solving tips to keep in mind as you go through
the setup, depending on your website.
If
you are new to Google Analytics, we will start with the following:
•
What is Google Analytics.
•
Next, go to How to Create a Google Analytics Account.
•
Adding Google Analytics to your site. Specifically, we will be adding Google
Analytics to Wix and WordPress. let's go!
What is Google Analytics?
In
short, Google Analytics is a free web analysis service provided by Google. In
short, Google Analytics allows you to track website traffic, videos, and social
network traffic, in addition to measuring the very important ROI, or ROI.
How to set up a google analytics account
Now
that we understand what Google Analytics is, let's move to how to do that to
set up a Google Analytics account. It is really very simple and only takes a
few steps. But I'll go into two different options that are very important
during the setup depending on that for your site. Google Analytics was recently
updated, some sites are compatible and some are not. So I'll show you both ways
to do this because your analytics account will look different depending on your
setup. I promise it all makes sense once you dive in here.
How to create a google analytics account
So
to create a Google Analytics account, head over to google.com/analytics and
simply click on "Start Free". Here, you'll create an account with the
same google account information your Gmail uses - so use the account whose
traffic you want to track.
You
can also create a free account from there too. Once logged in, click "Free
Setup" again. Here, add an account name. This could be your company name.
Scroll down after these data sharing options (I'd like to leave them turned
on), and select 'Next.' Here, you'll provide some details of the property,
including the property name. This is usually your website. So I will write in
my business website for this. After that, you will determine your time zone and
your currency. Now, here's where to give this very important advice, this is
very important depending on that for your website. You may want to make sure to
create a Universal Analytics property. In short, this is now Google Analytics
4, and it's a fairly new update. Some websites haven't updated to allow this
new method of tagging yet. So, for example, I have Wix, and they don't support
Google Analytics 4 yet having a universal feature is the key.
Now,
if you have a WordPress site, you don't need to worry too much about this. But
I'll quickly show you both versions. We'll start with Wix, and then onto
WordPress. So, below this currency option, you will have "Show advanced
options". This is your choice to create a global analytics feature. If you
run a Wix site, or want a generic tracking ID, be sure to toggle it on. Go
ahead and add the website URL there.
For
Wix, you have to make sure to toggle only the general option. Currently, if you
are using WordPress, you can select both options, not that important, but we'll
have them for that soon. Once you're done setting all of this, click
"Next" again. There, you can add additional business information,
number of employees, as well as some checkboxes here to see what you want to
track. After that, all you have to do is click "Create". Here, in
this popup, agree to the terms, and voila - you have successfully created your
Google Analytics account.
How to add Google Analytics to your website
So
it really takes about a minute to set up the Google Analytics account. So,
after your account is set up, you need to add Google Analytics to your website.
You can do this by installing Tracking ID or Measurement ID directly on your
website. Now, again, remember, there are different ways to do this depending on
the site you have, but I'll walk you through a few options so you can at least
understand where to find the code in your Google Analytics account and how to
add it to a website.
How to add Google Analytics to Wix sites
So,
in line with the installation for a Wix account, if you select the General
option, File will now look like this. For reference, we are in our admin
console, under the ownership we just created, in the Tracking Code section. You
will need to copy this Tracking ID to the left. It's UA- and a bunch of
numbers. Now, from your Wix site dashboard, scroll over Marketing and SEO in
the left panel , Then select
"Marketing Integration". Here, there is an option to link to Google
Analytics, so click "Connect". And we see, here, Wix warns us that we
cannot fully use the new GA4 version of Google Analytics yet, which is why we
chose the public option. Go ahead and click "Connect to Google
Analytics". And in this window that pops up, you will put your tracking
ID. The UA number you copied from your analyzes. So paste this Tracking ID,
toggle on Hide IP ID and click Save. Voila, Google Analytics is now connected
to your Wix site. Now it may not appear that you are connected immediately, so
go ahead and update your browser and we have successfully linked Google
Analytics to your Wix account.
How to add Google Analytics to WordPress sites
So
now as promised, let's review how to do the same, in a slightly different way
for a WordPress site, as many of you will likely be using WordPress. Now, do
you remember when we got back here in Google Analytics and we were creating a
property? So, you have your property name which could be the website, you set
your timezone and currency, but instead of selecting the general option, you
left the advanced option switched options. Click "Next" and select
your business information. Then you click "Create" and agree to the
terms. Now, instead of getting this trace, the ID is created for you in the top
right.
We
need to set up a data stream in order to start collecting the data we want. So,
if you have already set up a Google Analytics account, but haven't done this
step yet, the screen might look different. So, to give you an idea of where
we are in our Google Analytics account there, we are in the administration
portal, on the site we just created, and we are in the "Data Sources"
section. So it is a little different from this Tracking ID section. So there we
want to choose a platform. So we will choose the web, because we want to add
Google Analytics to our website.
Now,
from there, we have to set up this data stream, and we do that by adding our
domain. So put your site url there. Then to the right, name the stream. You can
call this your own website, trade website or product site, however it makes
sense for your situation. So here under Enhanced Scaling I recommend keeping
this toggle on, but if you can and want only a few of these and not all of
them, you can click the gear icon there and individually select the
interactions you want to automatically scale. Once you are satisfied with
everything, just click "Create Broadcast". Now we have a few more
options here again in our web flow details.
Google
should create a metering ID here on the right. If you don't see your
measurement ID right away after doing this it's fine, maybe take a minute. You
can always reload your analytics page and it will appear soon. The metric ID is
important because, as I said, depending on your website, you have different
options for adding Google Analytics.
Now
if we scroll down there, you can also use these tagging instructions for your
site. Even within the tagging option, there are two different methods. There is
a comprehensive site tag or tag manager program from Google. I think Google Tag
Manager is more powerful, as you can send data to tools other than Google as
well. Either one works well for WordPress sites, so if you're comfortable
copying and pasting that code into the header of every webpage you want to
measure, this section is for you. But I think it's very easy to copy the metric
id here the G code in the top right, just like we did with the tracking id
earlier.
So,
copy your measurement ID and head over to WordPress.com settings, go to Tools,
after that choose Marketing then Traffic. Scroll down until you find the Google
Analytics section. There, you should be able to paste the measurement ID. Just
click "Save Settings" and that's it.
So
remember that there is more than one way to add Google Analytics to your
website, but all said and done, it should take you a few minutes to set up a
Google Analytics account and successfully add it to your site. Thats all about
it.
